José Sandoval is a jazz-pianist and singer-songwriter who earned his undergraduate and masters’ degrees in Physics from Harvard University in spring 2002. A student of classical piano since the age of four and classical violin since the age of two, Sandoval performed at Chicago's Orchestra Hall with the Haig Academy of Violin and competed in piano guild competitions as a student of Radcliffe graduate, Carol Stein, before entering (and through) elementary school. He began studying & transcribing jazz while in high school, playing his first gigs with friends at local coffee shops and company Christmas parties.

During his time in Cambridge, Sandoval played with a variety of bands at many college campus venues (Harvard, Wellesley, and BU) and around the Boston area at clubs like the Middle East and T.T. the Bears. In 2000, as a member of the band, North House, Sandoval won the Internet Underground Music Archive’s (IUMA’s) East Coast Battle of the Bands and opened for Les Claypool’s Primus on the legendary stage of the Fillmore West concert venue in San Fransisco.

While continuing to compose and perform with his “New Band,” Sandoval plans to work as a pianist in jazz clubs next year with the hope of eventually becoming a touring recording artist.
